Is it the Spring Equinox already? Are you too old to be a kid, too young to have one yet? Here's another way to celebrate. |
This is a longstanding St. Mary's College tradition, one of the kind that isn't discussed in public due to its suprise nature. Seniors go out Saturday night hiding brightly colored cans of Natural Bohemian (around $.25 per can) beer all over campus, especially around the underclassman housing. Excited freshmen wake up Sunday morning to find psychadelic beer cans hiding on top of payphones, behind bushes, and in tree branches. How does it happen? Seniors are needed, and these days are, I hear, especially hard to coerce into this particular role. I blame the Governor of the State of Maryland, Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr., for obscene tuition increases leading to a general lack of beer money by the second half of the Spring semester. In any case, there's no committee to decide who's spraying and hiding this beer - if you're wondering whether you should be doing it or not, you probably should. Think of those poor, thirsty freshmen.

The how-to for this doesn't run very deep. You can probably figure out how to buy a few cases and spray them up. Wait a half hour. The Sophomores will start looking for beer around midnight. Tell them to go to sleep. You probably know the good hiding spots already, but here are a couple of our favorites: On top of the bell tower, in the pianos in the dorms, in and around vending machines, on Monty Hall's roof, in the fire extinguisher cabinets, in the arrow-slits in brick walls, all around Schaefer, in the Fountain in the Garden of Rememberance, Calvert Hall's fire escape, stairwells, bathrooms, laundry machines. Have fun, and remember to hide them cleverly, because it's good to stimulate those kids academically and all. |
